Neither are difficult to install, but the PCI adapter requires you to open your computer case, grab some compressed air to kill the population of dust bunnies living there, then find a free slot. The USB adapter just slides into a free USB port.
The other advantage of the USB adapter is that most come with an extension cable which allow you to position the adapter better, mounted on a wall, or next top the computer etc. The PCI card just has a fixed antenna at the back of your computer case, where signal strength may or may not be good.
