can i use a HP charger on my dell laptop?
I have a dell (inspiron 1501 if it matters) laptop and the charger is broken. I tried to buy the cheapest replacement. (HP charger). It half works, it allows the laptop to run on ac power but wont recharge the battery. Is there anything I can download to make the dell laptop acept the HP charger fully?

(ANS) The short answer is NOP!!. Why? because DELL have made their laptop and notebook chargers proprietary & that means you are forced by go back to DELL and buy their make & model of charger. Even the connectors are dell specific.
**Even if the HP charger fits I highly recommend you DON’T carry on using it. Why? because there could be subtle differences in the electrical frequencies which might well explain why the HP wont charge the laptops battery. The HP charger could even do damage to the laptop if used, its risky IMO.
**You have x3 options here as far as I can see:
No.1 Go back to DELL and buy a new spare charger for your specific model machine. DELL will almost certainly carry & sell spares.
No.2 You could go to Part Master who are a company & website were you might well find a dell replacement charger but you will have to compare prices to see if that’s better value. See the specific make & model of charger and see if part master do one exactly the same? it might be possible. http://www.partmaster.co.uk

No.3 You could buy one off Ebay if your prepared to take the risk?
