Expresscard Express

September 12th, 2009 admin No comments

If youâ € ™ I bought a new laptop lately youâ ™ € ll probably noticed a new look in the slot next to it. This is the Express card slot.

ExpressCard technology is designed to deliver high performance (supporting the faster data transfer with lower energy consumption) and allow modular expansion for your laptop. If, for example youâ € ™ I bought a laptop without a Firewire port, but then find you need FireWire to transfer video from your camcorder can add Firewire capability Express with a Firewire card.
Â
There are two standard formats of ExpressCard modules:

  1. ExpressCard 34 mm (size: 34mm x 75mm)
  2. 54mm ExpressCards (size: 54mm x 75mm)

Both sizes are 5 mm thick, the Like replacing PCMCIA cards. Both the size of the card uses the same interface connector â € "so the œbusiness enda € â € actually connected internally within the laptop is 34 mm wide that is express card size your laptop supports it. This is possible because most 54mm Express cards are manufactured in a way œLa € â € with what appears to be the cut corner to allow the final interface for connecting internally.

Why two different sizes? Well, itâ € ™ s to give manufacturers greater flexibility in the system than in the past. While target = "_blank" Title = "usbnow"> 34mm Express Cards are better suited to smaller systems, the slightly wider 54mm Express Cards can support applications that are not physically fit in the narrower 34mm Express Card. Examples include Compact Flash readers, and 1.8-inch drives both which are wider than 34mm.

In addition, 54mm Express cards give a little more by number of integrated components which in turn reduces the amount of heat generated â € "sounds incredible, but most lightweight card takes into account the heat to dissipate more efficiently can be important for some high-performance applications

After a slow start, now there are plenty of target = "_self" title = "USBnow"> Express Cards in the market to allow you to upgrade your laptop and these include:

  • eSATA Express Cards
  • Firewire 400 Express Cards
  • Firwire 800 Express Cards
  • USB 2.0 Express Cards
  • Solid Storage Express Cards (up to 32 GB of storage)
  • Serial Port Express Card
  • Parallel Port Express Cards
  • Card Readers
